Deborah Davidowits is among four artists featured in Upstate, a group show of accomplished artists living in the area opening tonight (April 18) and running through May 23 at Nicole Fiacco Gallery in Hudson. The other artists participating in the show are Susan Wides, Robert The and Joyce Robins. The opening reception is happening tonight from 6-8pm. Nicole Fiacco Gallery is located at 336 Warren St.

Karlos Carcamo is currently taking part in two exhibitions in New York. The first which opened on April 7 and will remain on view through April 25 is The Pleasure Seekers, curated by Dan Halm. The Pleasure Seekers can be seen at the chashama Times Square Gallery at 112 W 44th St. The second exhibit, \'flo\: art, text, new media at The Center of Book Arts is curated by Rocio Aranda-Alvarado. The exhibit which includes work by artists "all of whom engage in the concept of 'flow' - how text and image move and interfuse", opened on April 15 and will remain on view through June 27. An artist talk will be held on May 27 at 6:30 pm with Dahlia Elsayed, Jessica Lagunas, Cifford Owens and Robin Price. The Book Arts Center is located at 28 W 27 St, 3rd floor.

The Anne Street Gallery is hosting an artist lecture today at 2pm given by Bill Justin, a self taught folk artist and found object sculptor, as part of the gallery's current Art Brut exhibit on view through today. The Anne Street Gallery is located at 104 Anne Street in Newburgh.

Steven Evans, Dia Assistant Director for Beacon has curated an exhibit opening tomorrow at the Dorsky Gallery Curatorial Programs in Long Island City. Other Voices, Other Rooms brings together work by Max Cole, Marcia Hafif, Winston Roeth, David Simpson and Fred Sandback. An opening reception will be held on April 19 from 2 - 5pm. Today at 2pm, the Garrison Art Center is hosting an opening reception for its annual exhibit Site (School Invitational Themed Exhibit). The exhibit features work created by students throughout the area who range in age from kindergarten to high school in the area and includes work from Beacon High School and the Beacon Community Center's After School Program. The exhibit will remain on view through April 26.

In Yonkers this weekend, the YOHO Artist Studios complex is holding its annual open house. The open studios will be happening today and tomorrow from 12-5pm.

Finally, a project proposal by Jill Reynolds and Dan Spitzer is one of four that have reached the final stage of consideration for commissioning as a permenant public art piece in the lobby of a business tower in Pittsburgh PA. The chosen project will be announced on April 24. Schematics of the four contending proposals accompanies this article about the competition.

Garrison Art Center exhibits open Feb 6,

An opening reception will be held at the Garrison Art Center for new exhibits of work by Kevin Kearns and Mikiko Kanno on Friday, Feb 6, 6-8pm.

Garrison Art Center hosts openings for Eleanor Grace Miller and Donald Alter tonight, 6-8pm

The Garrison Art Center is hosting two openings tonight beginning at 6pm. Eleanor Grace Miller's paintings, and Donald Alter: Beyond Black Mountain will both be on view through Feb 1. Donald Alter's exhibit is curated by Tony Moore and the long invisible Harald Plochberger, who are contributing a text and a video respectively which will accompany the exhibit.

Alter will be giving an artist talk at the art center on January 25 at 3pm. Plochberger's involvement with this exhibit marks a return of sorts as he appears to have been laying low since leaving bau in 2006. Returning with him is his penchant for sprawling press releases suitable for binding (the Alter press release is available on the GAC website).

Audrey Chibbaro and James St. Clair opening tonight at Garrison Art Center

The Garrison Art Center is hosting a reception tonight from 5-7pm for the openings of two exhbits; James St. Clair's Harbor Paintings, and Audrey Chibbaro's Memtex. Both exhibits will be on view through Nov 16.

Aldrich Museum's Radius 2008 program

The Aldrich Art Museum's professional develpment program for artists known as Radius includes three separate workshop programs, the first of which will be held at the Garrison Arts Center on April 12 from 2-5pm, and it will focus on Artist websites and other promotional aspects of the internet. Two other workshops on the ins and outs of studio visits and strategic planning for artists will also be held in the coming weeks.

The Aldrich's annual "For Artists Only" event will be held on May 31, 6:30-8:30 pm.

Drawing Revealed video screening, March 6, 2008 in Garrison NY

There will be a screening on March 6 of the accompanying video to the Drawing Revealed exhibition held in January at the Garrison Art Center
"Drawing Revealed: Artists in Conversation" will be screened at the Depot Theatre in Garrison at 7:30pm. There is a $5 admission and the filmmakers and featured artists will be in attendance for a discussion afterward. Here are the details.
The Drawing Revealed exhibit was written up by Ben Genocchio in the NY Times, and by Beth Wilson in Chronogram who in the same column also mentioned Van Brunt Gallery's Little Big Things exhibit.

Opening tonight: Grey Zeien, Bill Dane at Garrison Art Center

The Garrison Art Center will be hosting an opening reception for exhibits of paintings by Grey Zeien and photography by Bill Dane.

The reception runs tonight from 5-8pm.

Drawing Revealed in the Times and images

This weekend's NY Times Regional section ran Benjamin Gennochio's write up of the Drawing Revealed exhibit on view at the Garrison Art Center.
The exhibit runs through Feb 17.

Drawing Revealed opens Jan 19, Garrison Art Center

Drawing Revealed, curated by Jaanika Peerna and Susan English, is a group exhibit that examines the discipline of drawing in a broad manner.
In addition to the work on display, a 30 min video documents the participating artist's unique interpretation of what constitutes, for each of them, the act of drawing.
Featured artists: Laura Battle, Nancy Bauch, Jaq Belcher, Ula Einstein, Alexis Elton, Thomas Huber, Ken Landauer, Jeesoo Lee, Charlotte Schulz, Craig Shannon, Stan Stroh.
